California P.O.S.T.  Approved Training

Manual Breaching & Tactics Inc. was formed by Rick Lopez who has over thirty years in law enforcement.

Rick recently retired from LAPD and most of his tenure was spent in SWAT  and narcotics. Rick will be entering the reserve program to assist in tactical training such as weapons training, manual breaching for search and arrest warrant service and live fire entries. Rick currently works for Andrews International  as the range master and tactical training for law enforcement, security and civilians.

He has been involved in numerous dynamic entries (rapid) since 1981. He was accepted into LAPD SWAT in 1982. During his tenure in SWAT he observed how successful the door pull worked. This technique worked well against barrel bolted (lagged) security doors.

In 1994 he was promoted to Detective and left SWAT. He requested to be assigned to Narcotics and immediately saw that narcotics officers were experts in breaching security doors utilizing the Hayworth and Hooligan breaching tools.  These tools worked well if there was no wall next to the door knob. Rick realized this problem had to be addressed.

One of the narcotics detectives developed a tool that was crude, heavy and cumbersome. At times it was difficult to penetrate the mesh of the security door with the hook portion of the ram. Even though, this tool was usually effective.

Rick spent over a decade developing the Punch and Pull and the tactics required to deploy it safer and faster. To address the problem of penetrating the mesh, he developed a tool to penetrate the mesh or sheet metal of the door.

Rick has trained thousands of officers from city, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in the tactics of breaching doors and windows. The Punch and Pull is one of many tools in which Rick provides training. Emphasis is placed on surveillance of the target location. This is critical in as the surveillance will dictate which tool is appropriate (if the door is heavily fortified, a door pull would be recommended.)
